Read on to find out what we have been up to in Years 5 & 6 this week.
Year 5
Over the past two weeks, Year 5 have been immersed in a range of exciting and educational activities. Here’s a snapshot of what we've been up to:
In English, Year 5 have written up their spooky narratives about the famous highwayman. They focused on building tension and suspense throughout their stories. They were filled with eerie setting descriptions, suspenseful twists and chilling atmospheres, which used varied sentence lengths to keep readers on the edge of their seats.
In maths, we have been learning how to collect, organise, and interpret data, as well as how to display data visually, through graphs and charts. In addition to statistics, Year 5 has been working on identifying different types of angles. The children are developing a solid understanding of acute, obtuse, reflex and right angles.
In science, Year 5 continued exploring the changes of materials and developed their scientific enquiry skills by experimenting the process of and speed at which rusting occurs on iron. We tested and observed the rate of rusting in different liquids, such as: saltwater, vinegar, and tap water.
Meanwhile in D&T, the students have proudly and successfully completed their products in textiles; each uniquely and creatively designed to meet the design brief. From choosing fabric and colours, to applying various sewing techniques, they have demonstrated impressive skill and attention to detail.
Finally, Year 5 had the opportunity to take part in an exciting Music Day- culminating in an energetic flash mob of sounds, where students collaborated with others from across the school to create an unforgettable musical performance. The day was a fantastic celebration of music and it left everyone feeling inspired.
We are incredibly proud of Year 5's hard work and enthusiasm this term! We hope that everyone enjoys a well-earned break!

Year 6
The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of excitement as the children completed their final pieces of core learning before beginning their SATs revision. Their enthusiasm and dedication have been truly commendable, and we are incredibly proud of their hard work!
In maths, the children have been delving into the world of position and direction, mastering how to translate, reflect, and describe shapes across four quadrants. They have also been exploring statistics further, learning how to interpret and construct pie charts. This has been a fantastic way to consolidate their maths learning before they apply these skills in their post-SATs enterprise project, where they will use their mathematical knowledge in a real-world context.
In English, creativity has flourished as the children have drawn upon their experiences at the vineyard to craft their own endings to a popular narrative. The quality of their writing has been exceptional, with engaging plots, rich vocabulary, and well-developed characters. Their enthusiasm for storytelling has been wonderful to see, and we are sure you are eager to read their imaginative conclusions!
One of the standout highlights of the fortnight has been Burger Week. With the sun shining, the children transformed into professional chefs—preparing, cooking, and even advertising their own burger products. Their teamwork, creativity, and culinary skills were outstanding, and they took great pride in their delicious creations. The teachers were left feeling very hungry, and the event was a resounding success!
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all parents for your continued support this term. Your encouragement and involvement make a real difference in the children’s learning experiences.
We wish you all a wonderful Easter holiday and look forward to welcoming the children back, well-rested and ready for their SATs revision!
