Read on to find out what we have been up to in Years 5 & 6 this week.

Year 5

After a busy and productive assessment week in Year 5, the children have shown off everything they have learned throughout the year. It has been a fantastic opportunity for the children to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in various subjects, and we are incredibly proud of their hard work and achievements.

In our continued exploration of forgiveness, the children delved into a Buddhist story and compared it to a Christian one. This comparative study allowed the children to gain a deeper understanding of the principles of forgiveness in different religions.

Our reading sessions have been particularly engaging this week as we continued with "War Horse." The children focused on comprehension and expression, which evoked a range of emotions as they connected with the story's characters and events.

In science, we explored the gestation periods of different animals. This fascinating topic helped the children understand the diversity of life cycles in the animal kingdom.. The children were amazed by the variety of gestation periods and enjoyed comparing the developmental timelines of the animals.

One of the most exciting activities for the children this week was preparing, cooking, and blind-tasting their very own vegetable curries. The children embraced this culinary adventure with enthusiasm, learning about different spices and ingredients used in curry making. The blind-tasting session was a highlight, with everyone enjoying the delicious results of their hard work and gaining valuable cooking skills in the process.

Year 6

Wow, where do we start? Year 6 have had the BEST week ever at PGL. The sun was shining from the moment we arrived and the sea was glistening. Osmington Bay became our home for the week. All children loved spending time with their friends in their bedrooms as well as making new friendships in their day groups. Teachers were very impressed with their tidiness and the room inspection scores improved day after day - they have no excuses for a messy bedroom at home.

Our week was jam-packed with fun activities. Favourite activities included the giant swing, raft building, aeroball and archery. We also loved the campfire and ending the week with a year group game of dodgeball. Each day was very busy but everyone coped brilliantly. The food was yummy and we loved having a cooked breakfast every morning. All teachers (and Mrs Bracegirdle who popped down to visit) were so impressed with our attitudes, resilience and inclusivity. The teamwork displayed was fantastic! Even when children found things challenging, others were there to offer kind words or encouragement.

Some quotes from children:

“It is really fun, you face a lot of your fears and get to try new things which you don’t get to do at home.”

“Our favourite activity was raft building. We got to create a raft with our friends and then cool off in the sea,” said Masha and Elizabeth.

“We have loved the food and been happy all day,” said Aria.

Charlie said, “It’s an experience of a lifetime, from raft building to zip line. We have all loved it.”

Marko said, “It’s an extraordinary experience in such a short space of time.”

“The trip is 10/10. No more words needed,” Maria and Sophie.

Year 6, thank you all for being so wonderfully well behaved and so supportive of one another. We look forward to seeing you all well rested back in school next week ready to focus on our production and other leavers activities and events. Lots of you are visiting you new school Monday and we can’t wait to hear all about it on Tuesday.
