Music News

There has been a lot of fantastic music-making happening in the classroom this week.

Alongside rehearsing their Tideo folk dance, our Year 4 groups have been learning the notes of the C major pentatonic scale and how to position each note on the musical stave.

Our Year 5 groups have been continuing their composition work in their djembe groups and have now all composed a signal and unison rhythm. It is wonderful to hear their creative development.

Year 6 have been sharing their progress on the English National Opera project Finish This… This week, each group performed their own musical composition inspired by their word banks. Next week, they will start creating their own graphic scores!

Band of the week shout outs:

The following musicians had a fantastic music session during the last two weeks.

Year 4

Avril (Onyx) – For always following our musical expectations and for working hard today to identify and play the notes on the musical stave. You set a fantastic example for the rest of the group.

Charlotte (Carnelian) – Well done for modelling the Tideo dance! Your clear demonstration made it much easier for the rest of the group to learn the moves. Good job!

Bea (Onyx): You worked really well in your small group and successfully identified the note positions for the major pentatonic scale in two octaves. Well done!

Antonis (Carnelian): You showed excellent effort in learning both the singing and dancing parts of Tideo.

Meric (Zircon): You consistently follow our musical expectations and set a fantastic example for the rest of the class with your focused efforts. Keep up the great work!

Year 5

Alin (Moonstone) – A big well done for playing as a Master Drummer and leading the rest of the group through the signal. You showed independence and a high level of musicianship with accurate strokes.

Florence (Peridot) – You always follow our musical expectations and work hard to achieve a high level in music lessons. Fantastic singing and drumming today!

Maya (Starlite) – You did a fantastic job as Master Drummer during today’s session. Your part was well-rehearsed, enabling the rest of the group to follow your lead. Well done!

Oli (Peridot): You worked really well to create an interesting rhythm for your group's unison section. It was fantastic to see you taking the lead in the group work, and I look forward to seeing more in future lessons.

Clemmie (Starlight): Well done for answering the question on unison and signal today. You gave an accurate account of the difference between both, which helped the rest of the class better understand each section.

Year 6

Wali (Garnet) - Your contribution to your group piece was so musical. I loved the choices of pitch you made on your guitar and the technique you used to play. Your choices represented the words from your Word Bank really well.

Elise (Kyanite) - Well done for always following our musical expectations by showing respect to other musicians and always trying your best during practical and listening activities. You set a great example for the rest of the class.

Fredrick (Jet) - Thank you for being a considerate musician during our rehearsals. You always follow instructions and work hard on all tasks. You set a high standard for the rest of the class on how to behave in a rehearsal room. Keep up the great work
