Y5 & 6 had great sessions today…
Our Year 5 Musicians played their own arrangement of Drunken Sailor in today’s music lesson. As a group they composed created their own arrangement which included their own lyrics, body percussion, cup rhythms alongside tuned percussion and piano parts. It was amazing to see all their fantastic musical work come together in this piece.
Our Year 6 musicians have been learning about swing music and were tasked with creating their own arrangement of the song Hey Mr Miller, which is a tune about the famous American conductor Glenn Miller. The piece included singing in a three part round, swing rhythms planned on the drum kit and amazing improvisations on tuned percussion using notes from the C major scale!
Band of The Week
Each week one musician from each class is recognised for their hard work and gets to join the ‘Band of the Week’ by writing their name on the classroom poster and getting a shout-out in the session. The following students had a fantastic music lesson this week.
Year 4
Skylar (Onyx) - You showed fantastic professionalism during todays session. For example when you did not have an instrument you always kept the pulse whilst others were playing. Great job!
Jad (Moonstone)- I really enjoyed your improvising today. You were able to play notes from the pentatonic scale and apply dynamic and a varied note duration, which made your piece sound so interesting. Your playing was so musical!
Elise (Zircon) - You are always kind and considerate to others. You made sure that all instruments were in the correct place and helped pack away the beaters at the end of the session. Thank you for being a respectful and responsible musician.
Year 5
Mielina - I really enjoyed your instrumental playing today. You played your part accurately and followed the structure of the piece really well. Fantastic music making today!
Eren - You made such a positive contribution to our arrangement of Drunken Sailor by keeping a steady pulse and singing so clearly. Well done.
Cece - Well done on singing as part of a small group during our arrangement of Drunken Sailor. You sang with good projection and expression.
Year 6
Ekin - You played the hi-hat part in the swing rhythm section so accurately today. Well done for playing your beat on 2 & 4 and helping the rest of the band to maintain a steady pulse and feel comfortable to improvise.
Oliver - Your played a fantastic solo during our Mr Miller arrangement. I really enjoyed the variety of dynamic and note duration you applied to your piece. Great work!
Defne - Great job on a fantastic solo during today's rehearsal of Mr Miller. Your playing was expressive and you used really interesting dynamics alongside a variety of rhythms to create an interesting and melodic piece. Well done.
