Read on to find out what we have been up to in Years 1 & 2 this week.

Year 1

We have had a lovely last week in Year 1 finishing up all our learning for the year and concluding our topics.

In science, we used our knowledge of plants to discuss the changes to plants and trees over the seasons. We used our scientific knowledge to carefully consider what we already know about the weather across the seasons to explain why we might see these changes. We then worked hard in our table teams to create a poster explaining what we’d learnt ready to present to the class.

In history, we thought back to our trip to Brooklands museum and learnt all about concorde! We went on a fact hunt around the classroom and challenged ourselves to remember 3 of them! We looked at pictures of concorde and compared it to modern planes, there were lots of similarities and differences that we spotted. We carefully drew a picture into our history books and wrote down as many facts as we could remember. We have really enjoyed our topic of the history of flight and loved learning all about significant people and aircrafts.

In RE, we heard and retold the story of Noah’s ark from the Torah as the last lesson in our ‘What does it mean to be Jewish’ topic, we have found it very interesting to learn about different aspects of Judaism across this half term.

Year 2

We're thrilled to update you on the wonderful activities and learning experiences our Year 2 children have been enjoying this week, for the final time this year! How it has flown… In English, our young journalists wrote captivating newspaper reports about an intriguing house. The house was so neglected that trees managed to surround it and lift it off the ground! Their creativity and developing understanding of apostrophes truly shone through in their reports. In Maths, we revisited word problems, strengthening our problem-solving abilities. The children have been working hard and making great progress, realising that the questions need breaking down and reading very carefully. Our science lesson focused on hygiene, where we explored the importance of showering, brushing our teeth, and blowing our noses. The children even created informative guides for younger children, showcasing their understanding and ability to communicate essential health tips. History took us back to the Tudor era, as we studied the significance of the River Thames during that time. The children discovered that The Thames was the most effective and safest ‘motorway’- meaning monarchs used the river frequency for transportation! Thursday was particularly exciting with a mega workout organized by Mrs. Hampton, a PE lesson by Coach Josh, followed by sewing and music activities. The children had a fantastic time, staying active and creative.

As we enjoy the summer term, we are also preparing for the next year. We've had many discussions about our thoughts and feelings, sharing worries, and even writing anonymous letters of advice for friends who might need it. This has been a wonderful way for the children to express themselves and support each other. Finally, we have reflected upon the amazing times we've shared and the incredible support we have had from our teachers and grown-ups. The Year 2 children and teachers are feeling very grateful for everyone's help. Thank you all so much!
