Gems News

Read on to find out what we have been up to in Gems this week.

A warm welcome back to all our Gems families. We hope the summer was rewarding and relaxing for everyone.

It has been wonderful to see our Year one pupils return to a new building and look like they have never been away. Speech and language is constantly improving. We have seen lots of turn taking and understanding the rules to games and everyone is respectful and helpful to their peers.

We are delighted to welcome two new Gems families to our provision, and we hope their journey through The Vineyard is as rewarding and fun as last year’s cohort found it to be. They have certainly started in a happy, confident manner and we are delighted to have them with us.

From Wednesday 11th September, both Y1 and YR are working on full timetables. We will be using this week and next to settle everyone into the new building. We will go over to the lunch hall and play times but not start any mainstream inclusion until W/C 23rd September.

I will be happy to provide timetables and curriculum overviews should you require one.

Please email srp@vineyard.richmond.sch.uk with any queries and the Gems team will be happy to help.

Key messages

  • Drop off time is 8.40. Gems registers MUST be completed by 8.50. Pick up time for Gems pupils is 3.05. Please be prompt so we can maximise the time we have to set up for the next day’s learning. Please ensure that you have notified the school if you are going to be late.

If you are late in the morning and we have gone to OT, please bring your child              to the main office and someone will help you from there.

  • Reading Records will be sent home weekly. Please read with your child even if the text is too difficult. Looking at the pictures and exposing them to language will always be beneficial.

  • Please practise writing and saying the Set 1 sounds at home, using the phonics website by Ruth Miskin to help you.

Y1 pupils will move on to set 2 and 3 sounds at a pace that works for them.

  • Would families please be so kind as to donate some general cooking supplies to help with our Thursday sessions. e.g., flour, oil, butter, lifelong milk, cupcake cases. This is not compulsory. Donations welcome.

  • Children are not to play on the climbing frame or any school equipment before and after school.

  • Friday 20th September - Pyjama reading day. Bring in £1 and wear your pyjamas to school.
