Read on to find out what we have been up to in Reception this week.

This week in Reception, we have continued with our exciting dinosaur topic. At the beginning of the week we used a trundle wheel on the field to measure how long the dinosaurs would have been millions of years ago; we discovered that the Argentinosaurus was the longest dinosaur! In English, the children have been using their wonderful knowledge of dinosaurs to write a class non-fiction fact book all about dinosaurs. We will display this non-fiction book in our class book corners so others can enjoy learning facts about different dinosaurs. In maths, we have been exploring 3D shapes and identifying their key features. We have been recalling key vocabulary such as solid, flat, vertices, faces and comparing 3D shapes with 2D shapes. During free learning, the children have been using their knowledge of herbivores and carnivores to sort dinosaurs into groups based on their key features. Ask your child to identify whether a dinosaur was a carnivore or a herbivore and ask them why - they should be able to tell you! With the loose parts and at the light box, children have been consolidating their understanding of odd and even numbers by creating a character using odd and even body parts. In the Creation Station, the children have been using the junk modelling resources to recreate their own dinosaurs and using playdough to make dinosaur eggs and nests. In Vineyard Adventurers, the children had a great time making mud faces, nature crowns and building dens.
