Read on to find out what we have been up to in Reception this week.

This week in Reception, we have continued with our topic on dinosaurs, which the children are thoroughly enjoying. They have loved comparing the different sizes and seeing it brought to life on screen – they couldn’t believe how big the Argentinosaurus was! We have introduced carnivores and herbivores and the children have identified the features that make them meat or plant eaters. In English, we have been labelling the different parts of a T-Rex or Triceratops and writing a sentence to describe them. The children have been ambitious and started to include adjectives in their writing. In maths, we have developed our understanding of grouping, including sharing even and odd numbers between two groups. We also built a ‘doubles town’ to play with and explore doubles up to 10. In free learning, the children have been using writing frames to describe dinosaur pictures. They have made a dinosaur world with the loose parts and created fantastic dinosaurs on the light box using shapes. In the Creation Station, the children have been busy colouring dinosaur patterns and making dinosaurs with our junk modelling resources, as well as using playdough to build the dinosaurs on the playdough mats. In the Learning Garden, we have been playing red word hopscotch and are eagerly waiting for the sun to make an appearance so that we can practise some dinosaur shadow drawings! This term, the Year 5 children will be paired with some Reception children for reading practice. It has been heart-warming to see the older students being nurturing, while the younger ones enjoy reading and sharing stories together.
