Read on to find out what we have been up to in Reception this week.

As we start the final half term in Reception and our preparation for Year 1 begins, we will be learning all about dinosaurs. This week we have been focussing on introducing some of the most commonly known dinosaurs. Learning their names, understanding that they are from the past on our history timeline and using adjectives to describe and compare dinosaurs.  In English, linked to our timeline, we took a moment to think about the future and wrote sentences based on our hopes and dreams, practising writing in the future tense. In our PSHE lesson, we explored the names of different parts of the body and their functions. Reception children have started a new phase in their phonics journey - story books. This will help them to consolidate their sounds and gain confidence and fluency with reading sentences, while developing their comprehension skills. In maths, the children have been introduced to grouping and sharing, using practical resources to share into equal groups and being able to identify when they are shared unfairly. As part of our free learning activities, the children have been playing charades with their friends, creating different dinosaur worlds and making their own dinosaurs with movable parts. It is always interesting to hear the children sharing their great knowledge of dinosaurs. In the playdough image below, the children explained all about volcanoes, craters and the smoke that killed the dinosaurs. In art, they drew their self portraits and compared them to the portraits they completed at the beginning of the year, identifying the differences and similarities and looking at the progress they have made over the year.
