Come and find out what KS1 have been up to this week!
Year 3
In English, we have begun writing our explanation text all about what’s under the street. We have written engaging introductions using rhetorical questions and the first few paragraphs. In maths, we have been learning how to multiply a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. Using related calculations, we have also been making links between multiplication facts and division facts. Ask your children what happens to a number when it gets 10 times bigger! In science, we have been getting our hands on some rocks and learning to classify them by their properties. Some are hard, soft, heavy, light, colourful…there are many different properties a rock can have! We even came up with our own categories to sort them into groups. In geography, we have been learning about time zones and why it is a different time in Australia than it is here. Using maps, we found out what time zone different cities in North America were in. In Art, we tried our hand at some different painting techniques to try and recreate the figures seen in L.S Lowry’s paintings. We used paint brushes, glue spreaders, cotton buds and our fingers to achieve different effects!

Year 4
In English, we have been discussing the key purpose and audience for a recount, as well as our key ingredients for excellent recount writing. We have planned and begun to write our recounts of an experience by or in a river. In Maths this week we have been dividing 2 and 3-digit numbers by 1 digit. We have done this in written form, as well as practically. We have been developing our learning by looking are exchanges and remainders in our divisions. Can you solve 96 ÷ 6 = with your child? In Science, we have continued to develop our understanding of sound by looking at vibrations. We have been investigating how sound and vibrations are related. In Geography we are using Atlas to locate the Nile and the Thames river. In Art, we have been looking at how we create 3D shapes to add depth to our drawings. A special focus of this has been looking t shading to enhance depth.
