Read on to find out what we have been up to in Reception this week.

We have had a very busy end of term in Reception in the lead up to Christmas! We have been making beautiful Christmas cards to share with our families, decorations to go on our trees and of course practising for our nativities! The children have been working so hard to learn their lines and sing the songs for our shows. Thank you to the grown ups who came to support us. We were very proud of our performances and thought that the children did brilliantly. In English, we have been retelling the Christmas story and writing letters to Father Christmas! We used our fred fingers to hear the sounds in the words and used our best handwriting to form our letters. We even walked to the post box to post them! In maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge of the numbers 1-5 and have also explored shapes and patterns. We reminded ourselves of the properties of shapes and sorted them into how many sides and corners they have. When exploring patterns, we looked at repeated patterns and had a go at copying some patterns and making our own. In topic, we have also been looking at the Christmas story as well as how we celebrate Christmas as a Christian festival. We used our own experience of the nativity play to help us remember who is in the Christmas story and what happens. We looked at how we might celebrate Christmas by going to church, singing carols and having a big meal. We compared what's the same and what's different between Christmas and Diwali and came up with some very insightful answers. We are all very proud of the progress the children have made in Reception this term; we wish our families a restful break and look forward to the adventures to come in January!
