Year 5

The children have managed well this week in the high temperatures, combined with it being Assessment Week. To their credit, they have enjoyed their maths and reading end-of-year tests, as well as being recently assessed on last half term’s science and geography. This week in science, we enjoyed researching the gestation periods of different creatures. Thinking like scientists, the children formulated hypotheses about the correlation between different variables: lifespan, number of offspring per pregnancy and size of species. They enjoyed conducting their own research in groups in Chromebooks and comparing results amongst themselves. This week also saw the first round of in-class auditions for The Vineyard’s X Factor talent show. It was fantastic to see the range of musical and vocal talent on display. Voting was taken incredibly seriously - and classes are waiting in anticipation for their representative to be confirmed. A huge well done to everyone who took part. The children’s writing in English, based on the features of our text Warhorse, are progressing very well.

• During  the heatwave, please send your child to school with a named water bottle, plus hat and sun cream applied.  No fans, please. 

• Please send in  recycling items that children can use in DT w/c 19th June to make a water wheel in DT.

• KIRFS: unit of measurements conversions eg 1,000 ml in 1 litre. 

• Farm trip on Tuesday: please ensure your child comes to school by 8.25. We will be leaving school straight away.

Year 6

The children have been staying cool in the sun as we start to look forward to the upcoming end-of-year activities. The focus in maths this week has been real-world problems such as planning a trip away and purchasing a house. There was a real buzz around these lessons and due to the success there will continue to be real-world skills built into their maths lessons moving forward. In English this week we created a piece of historical fiction, which is a story we have created but in a real-life historical setting. It is a fun way of combining creative writing and a historical event like the underground railroad. Next week is an exciting one, as we will begin to rehearse our play ‘Let Loose’.The children received their parts this week and are extraordinarily excited to begin practising soon. We look forward to seeing you at the summer fair tomorrow if you plan on coming!
