Dear families,
Thank you to those who attended the curriculum workshop today to find out more about our art, history and geography curricula. Please find the slides here. These have been constructed very carefully with research about how children learn at the forefront of our minds. As you will have read in previous weeks about 'The Forgetting Curve', it is important that children build on previous learning so that they can learn the new knowledge and skills being taught. Revisiting is vital for knowledge to go into our long term memories which then mean the children know more and remember more.
The children were very proud to show you their learning this afternoon in the open classroom event. We hope you enjoyed the time and feel more involved with your child/ren's learning as a result.
You will have noticed that key vocabulary is being added to the year group information pages. These words have been carefully chosen and are important for your children to know. It will help them be geographers, historians, artists etc if they can speak using the correct vocabulary. Please spend some time discussing the words with your children at home from time to time.
Thank you to our community for the support you have shown our teachers on Wednesday when some of the classrooms were closed. The issues they are striking over are extremely important to all in education around pay and conditions. I would also like to thank all teachers for the advanced warning about whether they were going to strike or not. They didn't have to do this, but this allowed the school to make plans and give you advance warning.
Next week is Children's Mental Health Week. Please see below for more information. On Tuesday it is also Safer Internet day and all the children will do a session on staying safe online.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Best wishes,
All at Vineyard Team
